What Exactly Is a Superfood?

What Exactly Is a Superfood?
Posted on

Ah that old phrase that’s thrown around All. The. Time.

But what does it actually mean?

The term "Superfood" is a fairly new term referring to foods that offer maximum nutritional benefits for minimal calories. They are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Antioxidants are natural molecules that occur in certain foods and help neutralise free radicals in our bodies. Free radicals are byproducts of energy that can cause havoc on the body.

Antioxidant rich foods can reduce and decrease the effects of free radicals that have close links with the following health problems…

- Heart Disease
- Cancer
- Strokes
- Arthritis

DISCLAIMER- Superfoods are not cure foods and a lot of people have unrealistic expectations of them.

Consuming and including superfoods as part of a healthy diet is great - especially if you’re including them as part of a balanced diet overall. The best piece of advice we can share?

Everything in moderation with a side of moderation.
